Jiji uses several different channels to keep you up to date, depending on the device you're using and the type of event. Here's an overview of each.
Email
Email is used for important account events and informational messages, including:
- Account confirmation, password reset, and email changes;
- Receipts for paid services (Premium Packages, Pro Sales);
- Ad status changes (approved, declined, expiring soon);
- Periodic newsletters and promotional offers (you can unsubscribe from these).
Push notifications (mobile app)
If you have the Jiji mobile app installed and are signed in, you'll get push notifications in real time when:
- You receive a new chat message;
- A new ad matching your saved search is posted;
- Someone follows you, or a seller you follow posts a new ad;
- Someone leaves feedback about you;
- Your ad's status changes;
- You have promotional offers, drops in price on your favourite ads, and more.
In-app notifications and alerts
When you sign in to Jiji (on the app or the website), you'll see:
- A notification inbox (the bell icon) — a feed of recent events: new chats, feedback, favourites, follower activity, ad updates, and so on;
- Sticky dashboard alerts — short, important messages at the top of your profile (account setup reminders, expired packages, verification requests, etc.).
SMS
SMS is used sparingly for things like phone-number confirmation, password reset codes, and certain Boost Package notifications.
To manage what you receive, go to My Profile → Settings → Manage notifications. You can turn most categories on or off independently.
