Your Jiji account holds your contact details, conversations, and payment history — so keeping it secure matters. Here are the most important things to know.
Choose a strong password
- Use at least 8 characters, with a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols;
- Don't reuse a password you use on other websites (especially email, social media, or banking);
- Don't share your password with anyone, including people claiming to be from Jiji Support — we never ask for it;
- Change your password regularly. See How do I change my password?
Use a security key (passkey) where possible
Jiji supports security keys, fingerprint, and Face ID for sign-in on supported devices. This is the strongest protection — even if your password leaks, no one can sign in without your physical device.
You can manage security keys in My Profile → Settings → Security.
Protect your phone number and SMS codes
- Treat your phone number's SIM the same way you treat your bank card — never give it to anyone;
- SMS verification codes (for example, the codes you receive when resetting your password or changing your phone number) are for you only — never share them, even with people claiming to be from Jiji, your bank, or law enforcement;
- If you use social login (Google, Facebook, Apple, Truecaller), make sure those accounts also have a strong password and two-factor authentication enabled.
What to do if you suspect your account was accessed by someone else
- Change your password immediately in My Profile → Settings → Security;
- Disconnect any social accounts (Google, Facebook, Apple, Truecaller) that you don't recognise;
- Sign out from all devices — sign in again on the devices you actually use;
- Check your active ads and recent transactions for anything you didn't post or pay for;
- Contact our Support Team at support@jiji.ng with the details — they can review activity on your account and take additional steps to secure it.
Common scams to watch out for
- Fake "Jiji Support" messages asking for your password, SMS code, or account access — Jiji never sends these. Report and ignore;
- Fake delivery / payment confirmation links sent in chat — don't click unfamiliar links;
- Requests to move the conversation off Jiji to "complete a verification" — almost always a scam.
