Responsibilities
A *Community Health Worker (CHW)* is a frontline health worker who connects the community to the health system. In Nigeria they're often called *JCHEW - Junior Community Health Extension Worker* or *CHEW*. They work in communities, PHCs, and outreach programs, not just in the hospital ward. *1. Community Health Education & Promotion* - Teach families about hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, and disease prevention - Sensitize communities on immunization, family planning, malaria prevention, HIV, TB - Promote maternal and child health: antenatal care, safe delivery, breastfeeding *2. Basic Healthcare Services* - Provide first aid and treat minor illnesses: fever, diarrhea, malaria, cough - Administer basic drugs and medications as permitted 3.Disease Prevention & Control* - Identify and report cases of communicable diseases to the PHC - Support disease surveillance and contact tracing - Participate in health campaigns and outreach programs

Healthcare & Technical Skills* - *Basic Treatment*: First aid, treat minor illnesses like malaria, diarrhea, fever, cough - *Maternal & Child Health*: Antenatal care support, safe delivery assistance, immunization, growth monitoring - *Disease Prevention*: Health education on hygiene, malaria, HIV, TB, family planning - *Screening*: Take vital signs, check BP, weight, blood sugar, temperature *2. Community & Communication Skills* - *Health Education*: Teach communities about sanitation, nutrition, and disease prevention - *Mobilization*: Sensitize and mobilize people for immunization and health campaigns - *Communication*: Speak local language + English. Relate well with community leaders and families - *Counseling*: Advise on family planning, breastfeeding, nutrition, and medication adherence *3. Administrative & Field Skills* - *Record Keeping*: Keep data of household visits, treatments, referrals, and health programs
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Minimum: SSCE with credits in English, Biology, and 2 other science subjects . Preferred: JCHEW Certificate- 2 years, or CHEW certificate 3 years from accredited school of Health Technology
