Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU) is a pressure-activated maritime safety mechanism used to automatically deploy life-saving equipment if a vessel sinks. Triggered by water pressure at a depth between 1.5 and 4 metres, it operates without human intervention to prevent critical survival tools from being dragged down with a vessel.
