It is commonly used in kitchens for cooking oil fires, but also for clothing fires, waste bin fires, and to contain chemical spills.
Fire blankets are easy to use, do not expire, and do not require training. Unlike fire extinguishers, they do not make a mess or produce fumes. The blanket is typically stored in a wall-mounted case or pouch for quick access.
To use a fire blanket, pull the release tapes to remove it from the packaging, drape it over the fire to seal off air, and switch off the heat source. If clothing is on fire, force the victim to the ground, wrap them in the blanket, call for medical aid, and treat for shock.
