This Aggregate Impact Value (AIV) test measures a coarse aggregate's toughness and resistance to sudden shock or impact loading. It is performed by subjecting an oven-dried aggregate sample to 15 standard hammer blows (13.5 - 14 kg dropped from 38 cm) and calculating the percentage of fines produced passing a 2.36 mm sieve.
