Fiberglass Fishing Boat Operator

Responsibilities* * Safely operate a fiberglass tiller-steered fishing boat powered by a 40HP outboard engine. * Navigate daily fishing routes using GPS and Navionics. * Deploy and retrieve longlines, branch lines and baited fish traps at assigned GPS coordinates. * Carry out daily engine and boat safety inspections before departure. * Monitor fuel consumption and report any mechanical issues immediately. * Assist with loading bait, ice, fishing gear and unloading the daily catch. * Keep the boat clean, organized and ready for daily operations. * Work closely with the supervisor and follow all operational instructions. * Ensure all crew members wear life jackets and follow company safety procedures. * Return the boat, engine and equipment in good condition after every trip.

Requirements & Skills* * Minimum 2 years’ experience operating tiller-steered fiberglass boats. * Good knowledge of Lagos Lagoon and nearby coastal waters. * Able to confidently operate Yamaha-style 40HP outboard engines. * Basic knowledge of GPS navigation. * Experience using Navionics or willingness to learn quickly. * Honest, dependable and punctual. * Physically fit and able to lift fishing equipment. * Able to work early mornings, weekends and public holidays. * No alcohol or drug use while on duty.

Minimum qualification requirements* * secondary school certificate (ssce) preferred but not compulsory. * valid means of identification (nin, voter’s card, driver’s licence or international passport). * previous commercial fishing or boat operating experience is essential. * references from previous employers or community leaders will be an advantage.
