Filax is primarily a sisal fiber reinforcement material used to strengthen Plaster of Paris (POP) and gypsum ceiling mouldings. Mixed with or laid into wet POP and gypsum mixtures during ceiling casting, cornices, and decorative interior mouldings.
It acts like rebar in concrete, giving the brittle plaster added tensile strength, flexibility, and load-bearing capacity.
It prevents sagging, surface cracking, and sudden breakage during or after installation.
