That’s Hallmark Z208 welding electrode, 3.2mm x 350mm. Label says "AWS EC1" / "AWS A5.15/A5.15M EC1" + "JIS Z 3252 DFCC1".
What it’s used for:
Welding cast iron. EC1 = "Electrode, Cast Iron". It’s a nickel-based electrode.
Main jobs:
1. Repairing cast iron - Engine blocks, gearboxes, pump housings, machine bases, manhole covers, stoves. Cast iron cracks easily and is hard to weld with normal steel rods.
2. Joining cast iron to steel - EC1 rods handle the different expansion rates so the weld doesn’t crack when it cools.
3. Machinable welds - Nickel gives a softer weld than steel rods, so you can grind/machine it smooth after welding.
