An 11kV disc silicon insulator is a type of polymer (silicone rubber) suspension insulator used in medium-voltage overhead lines to support and electrically isolate conductors.
Construction
* Fiberglass core rod – provides high mechanical strength
* Silicone rubber sheds (disc shape) – ensures insulation and water repellency
* Metal end fittings (ball and socket) – used for linking and suspension
How It Works
* The insulator holds the conductor while preventing current flow to the pole/tower.
* The silicone rubber surface is hydrophobic (repels water), reducing leakage current.
* During rain or contamination, it minimizes flashover and maintains insulation.
