A grasscutter is a large rodent found mainly in parts of West and Central Africa. It is also called the greater cane rat. Description Body: Stocky and heavy, with a rounded body. Fur: Usually brownish, grayish, or reddish-brown, with coarse hair. Head: Large head with small eyes and rounded ears. Teeth: Strong, continuously growing front teeth for cutting vegetation. Legs: Short legs with strong claws. Tail: Long and fairly thick, covered with short hairs. Size: Adults can weigh several kilograms, making them much larger than ordinary rats. Diet: Mainly grasses, roots, leaves, crops, and other plant material. Habitat: Grasslands, wetlands, forest edges, and areas near farms. Behavior: Mostly active around dusk and at night. They can live alone or in small family groups.
