Cable is an electrical conductor used to carry electric power or signals from one point to another. It is one of the most important components in any electrical installation.
A typical cable is made up of:
1.Conductor The core part that carries electricity Usually made of copper or aluminum
2.Insulation Covers the conductor to prevent leakage of current Common materials: PVC, XLPE
Single Core Cable – One conductor (used in simple wiring)
Multi-Core Cable – Two or more conductors (e.g., 2-core, 3-core, 4-core)
Flexible Cable (Flex) – Soft and bendable (used for appliances)
Cables are measured in mm2 (square millimeters), which shows the thickness of the conductor:
Small sizes: 1.5mm, 2.5mm (for lighting and sockets) Medium: 10mm, 16mm (for heavy appliances)
Large: 70mm, 185mm, 500mm (for industrial power)
