33kV silicon “Ganga” (commonly called a 33kV silicone insulator) is a high-voltage electrical component used on power distribution lines to support and insulate conductors at 33,000 volts.
⸻
What it is
A 33kV silicone insulator is made from polymer (silicone rubber) instead of traditional porcelain. In Nigeria, technicians sometimes call it “silicon ganga”, meaning a modern polymer insulator used on 33kV lines.
⸻
Construction
It is built in layers:
1. Core (Fiberglass Rod)
• Provides high mechanical strength
• Carries the load of the conductor
2. Silicone Rubber Housing
• Outer covering with sheds (fins)
• Prevents water accumulation and leakage current
3. Metal End Fittings
• Galvanized steel ends for mounting on poles or towers
