The Motif, which is Yamaha's first‐ever synth with a name, not a number (think about it), comes in three varieties. The 8 boasts a weighted, hammer‐action, 88‐note keyboard modified from Yamaha's P200 stage piano, while the 6 and 7 offer good‐quality 61‐ and 76‐note synth‐action jobs. Happily, there's no distinction between the three internally, no slicing features off the cheapest in the range to create a hierarchy, in the process rendering the entry‐level model annoyingly compromised.
