An ultrasonic thickness gauge is a device that measures the thickness of a material by sending sound waves through it and measuring how long it takes for the sound to return.
How it works
A probe, called an ultrasonic transducer, sends a sound pulse through the material.
The sound reflects off the back surface of the material.
The probe receives the reflected sound.
The gauge measures how long it took for the sound to return.
The gauge uses the time measurement to calculate the thickness of the material.
