Compass clinometer is used primarily by geologists to measure the orientation of geological features, specifically their strike (the compass direction of a line formed by the intersection of the feature with a horizontal plane) and dip (the angle and direction the feature slopes away from the horizontal). It's also used for general purposes like measuring slopes, heights, and distances.
