*Precipitated Silica*
Also called: _Amorphous Silica, Hydrated Silica, White Carbon Black, E551_
It’s a super fine white powder made by "precipitating" silica out of liquid. Not the same as sand or quartz — this one is amorphous, porous, and fluffy.
# *1. Quick Facts*
**Property** **Detail**
**Chemical** Silicon Dioxide - SiO2 · nH2O
**Look** Ultra-fine white powder. Feels soft
**Particle size** 5-100 nanometers. Way smaller than sand
**Surface area** Very high: 100-300 m2/g
**Solubility** Insoluble in water
**Food Grade** E551 - Anti-caking agent
# *2. How it Works*
Because of tiny pores + huge surface area, it:
1. *Thickens* - Makes liquids into gels/pastes
2. *Anti-caking* - Keeps powders free-flowing
3. *Reinforces* - Strengthens rubber, plastics
4. *Absorbs* - Soaks up oil, water, liquids
