The vertical mouse category was practically invented by Jack Lo, who patented the design in 1994 after experiencing wrist discomfort. He founded Evoluent, and they released the Evoluent VerticalMouse in late 2002. It was the first commercial mouse to pioneer the "handshake" grip to prevent forearm twisting. Wireless versions followed shortly after under their VerticalMouse Wireless and Bluetooth lineups, making Evoluent the undisputed pioneer of the category.
