Mancozeb is a widely used dithiocarbamate fungicide that protects crops from fungal diseases. It is a broad-spectrum protectant fungicide, meaning it prevents infections rather than curing existing ones.
Uses
- Controls early and late blight (potatoes, tomatoes), downy mildew (grapes, cucurbits), leaf spots, and rusts.
- Used on potatoes, tomatoes, apples, grapes, onions, and ornamental plants.
- Often applied as a foliar spray before infection occurs.
Mode of Action
- Multi-site inhibitor: Disrupts fungal enzymes (especially those involved in respiration) by forming isothiocyanate radicals.
- Preventive only—must be applied before fungal spores germinate.
