A *tamping rammer*, also called a *jumping jack* or *jumper machine*, is a compaction tool used to compress soil, gravel, sand, and asphalt in tight spaces where rollers can’t reach.
1. *What it does*
It uses a fast, up-and-down "jumping" motion to deliver high impact force to the ground. Each hit compacts the material layer by layer, removing air voids and increasing density.
That’s why it’s called a "jumper" – the foot actually leaves the ground on each cycle.
2. *How it works*
- *Engine*: Usually a 2.5-4 HP Honda GX100, Robin, or similar gasoline 4-stroke. Diesel and electric versions exist too.
- *Crank mechanism*: Converts engine rotation into vertical reciprocating motion.
- *Spring system*: Stores and releases energy to create the jump.
- *Tamping foot*: The flat plate at the bottom, usually 28-33 cm wide. I
