Oil absorbent booms are long, flexible, floating tubes used to contain and soak up oil and petroleum spills on water or land. They consist of a water-repellent (hydrophobic) polypropylene core housed in a tough outer mesh. Booms float even when fully saturated and can be clipped together to encircle spills.
