Clean the test surface thoroughly. 2. Apply the dye penetrant liquid to the test surface. 3. Allow the liquid to penetrate into any surface-breaking defects. 4. Remove excess liquid from the surface. 5. Apply the developer powder or spray to the test surface. 6. Observe the test surface under ultraviolet (UV) light (for fluorescent dye) or visible light (for color contrast dye).
