Mineral fiber is a general term for fibrous materials made from natural or synthetic minerals. It is commonly used in construction for insulation, fireproofing, and acoustic control. There are two main types of mineral fiber:
1. Rock Wool (Stone Wool) – Made from molten basalt or diabase rock, spun into fibers. It has excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties, is fire-resistant, and does not absorb water.
2. Glass Wool – Made from recycled glass and sand, similar to fiberglass. It is lightweight, provides good thermal insulation, and is widely used in walls, roofs, and HVAC ducts.
