RO bisulphite liquid is a pale yellow, sulphur-odored, aqueous solution of sodium bisulphite (NaHSO3) used as a dechlorinating agent to protect reverse osmosis (RO) membranes from chlorine damage and as a biocide and membrane preservative when the RO system is offline. It is a food-grade product, although it requires careful handling due to its toxic-gas-liberating properties when mixed with acids.
