The thermostat control which is located just inside the appliance is the controlling device that allows you to adjust the refrigerator temperature. The device controls the cooling system which includes the condenser, compressor, evaporator as well as metering device. Once adjusted to the desired temperature, it acts as a switch in controlling the cooling effect or temperature of the refrigerator. Increasing the number indicated on the control reduces the temperature which can cause the freezing of food items and beverages, reducing the number indicated will increase the temperature leading to spoilage. It is therefore advisable to set the thermostat to mid-range selection.
