It acts as the backbone of a drop ceiling, bearing the main vertical load of the framework. Interlocks with cross tees to form uniform modular squares or rectangles (such as 600mm x 600mm) designed to hold acoustical tiles or panels. Provides stable structural alignment for integrating lighting units, air vents, and smoke detectors into the ceiling layout. Hides unsightly wiring, pipes, and structural flaws while maintaining easy access to the plenum space above.
