Construction
Typical components include:
* Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) blocks – usually made of zinc oxide; these are the main protective elements
* Insulating housing – made of porcelain or polymer (silicone rubber) for weather
How It Works
* Under normal voltage, the arrester acts like an insulator (no current flows).
* When a lightning surge occurs, the voltage rises sharply.
* The arrester becomes conductive instantly, diverting excess current to the ground.
* After the surge, it returns to its non-conductive state.
