That looks like Denso Tape — also called petrolatum tape or corrosion prevention tape.
It’s wrapped in that waxy/white paper because the tape itself is impregnated with grease.
What it’s used for:
Denso tape is a corrosion protection wrap for metal. It seals out water, air, and chemicals so metal doesn’t rust.
Common uses:
1. Underground/Exposed pipes - Gas lines, water pipes, oil pipelines. Wrap joints, flanges, and welds.
2. Flanges, bolts, and fittings - Anywhere metal joins and could rust. Especially on offshore rigs, plants, and construction.
3. Cable and duct protection - Seals entry points to stop moisture.
4. Marine and structural steel - Protects beams, piles, and brackets from saltwater corrosion.
