Primary Use: It is a ready-to-use color contrast magnetic ink for the inspection of ferromagnetic materials, structures, and components using the magnetic particle inspection (MPI) method. Application Areas: Typical applications include inspecting welds, pressure vessels, and pipelines in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, as well as power plants. Functionality: The ink contains finely divided black magnetic particles suspended in an odorless kerosene/petroleum distillate base. When a magnetic field is applied to a material, the particles are attracted to areas of flux leakage caused by discontinuities (flaws), making defects like cracks visible in daylight. Usage Notes: It is often used in conjunction with a white contrast paint (like WCP 712 or 722) on dark surfaces to ensure clear visibility of the black indications.
