Mugwort is a plant related to ragweed used as an herbal medicine and to flavor food. It is thought to boost energy, calm nerves, support digestion, relieve itching and pain, and promote regular periods, among other things. Chemicals in mugwort might have anti-inflammatory effects. It also contains a chemical called thujone, which might stimulate the uterus. People use mugwort for anxiety, irregular periods, colic, insomnia, and many other conditions, MUGWORT LEAVES INTERESTING FACTS Like many Artemisia species, mugwort is also exceptionally bitter and was once prized as a medicinal herb. (The more bitter the specimen, the more effective it was considered.) Ancient Greeks and others used it as a vermifuge (an agent used to expel worms), an abortant, and a general antiseptic.
