They are used to securely connect heavy-duty electrical cables to equipment terminals, busbars, or switches. The tubular bottom part (the barrel) is slipped over a stripped cable end and crushed tight using a mechanical or hydraulic crimping tool to form a solid electrical and mechanical connection. Once crimped, a bolt or stud is passed through the flat, punched hole (or the flat palm is later drilled/punched) to fasten the cable firmly to a terminal block.
