An electrolarynx is a handheld, battery-powered electronic device that produces a vibrating, artificial sound used to speak after a laryngectomy (removal of the voice box) or other laryngeal conditions. The user presses the vibrating head of the device against their neck or under their chin, and the sound travels through the tissues to the mouth.
