Acephate is a systemic organophosphate insecticide (IRAC Group 1B) belonging to the phosphoramidothioate class. It is known for its broad-spectrum activity against sucking and chewing insects, with both contact and stomach action plus systemic translocation in plants. It is highly effective against a wide range of pests, including aphids (even resistant strains), thrips, leafhoppers, jassids, whiteflies, caterpillars (e.g., diamondback moth, bollworms), leaf miners, sawflies, spider mites, and some beetles/weevils. It also shows activity against certain nematodes and fire ants. Quick action with some effect on eggs, helping to break pest cycles rapidly. It kills pests on direct contact and via feeding. Insects metabolize it into the more potent methamidophos, enhancing efficacy. Often noted as an affordable option compared to others.
