My qualification in Basic Medical Sciences-Physiology, my experiences at teaching biology at all levels; (specifically at advanced level), couple with my strong educational backgrounds and, my level of experiences; should enable me to make a valuable contributions to the teaching team of your institution as Biology Teacher.
All my work experiences has entailed students contacts, and the tools and techniques I have developed applied directly to what a Biology Teacher needs: placid temperaments, problem-solving skills, analytical skills to scrutinize and meet students’ needs, ability to master information quickly, and convey contents to effectively meet students’ needs, strong communication skills, and good class management.
I have over 8 years teaching experiences as a biology teacher. Biology ,a comprehensive subject, requires a pragmatic approach, and I have developed basic teaching techniques over years that involved the use of illustrative lecture videos and animations, before the commencement of subject topics,(especially for : Cell dynamics, Nuclei acid and protein synthesis, inheritance, coordination and control, nervous transmission, enzymes, biological molecules, transport system…… (Logical topics most biology students find difficult to imbibe) to gain students attention, to arouse their curiosity, and equip them with high comprehensive skills, needed to answer biology questions.
I have used the “extraction and formulating methods” for years to prepare the students teaching notes; by extracting precise solutions to questions from the mark schemes, analyzed, simplified, and formulated these, together with relevant information from the teaching materials into students ‘note. These techniques reduced the boredom of lengthy notes that deter students from biology, and made my students imbibed the basic facts and concepts of the curriculum, rather than memorizing with- Rote learning techniques. It helped them to tailor their answers to examiners expectations.
I possessed the required knowledge of Microscopy, with detailed experience of measurements and diagrams outlines both at low and high plans, and experimentations of different biochemical reactions. I have prepared students for Cambridge Advanced Level Examinations (AS&AL) with this for a period of 3 years
I have taught biology with the National curricula of SSCE and NEC0 examinations, and UTME; with excellent grades for over 5years, combined with basic science curriculum at junior school
I am also conversant with the CIE; IGSCE (especially the supplement section), and the Cambridge AS &A curricula. I am familiar with the types and formats of assessments of these curricula, the teaching approaches and techniques of answering questions to meet examiner’s expectations. I made use of both oral and written approaches for assignments given out to my students for years. Students were mandated to defend their written assignments orally, rather than direct copy of solutions from the texts, this improved their comprehension, and encouraged thorough learning.
My strong knowledge, and exposure in field of medical science, natural science, technology and health, had enabled me over the years to generate interests of students in biology, I believe, this had been a source of inspiration for their success in medical fields.
Presently, I teach Biology with the CIE; IGSCE curriculum, and Advanced Placement (AP) Biology, American curriculum.
