Over the past eight years I have been directly involved in communications duties as a journalist with a newspaper publication at one time, an information officer with a federal law enforcement agency at another and currently working as a programmes officer in a rural community in Benue state with community mobilization, training and sensitization as part of my core duties.
With National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) particularly, I worked in a very complex environment managing highly classified information for a diversified system. I was involved with compliance monitoring and enforcement as well as carrying out awareness and sensitization campaigns in schools, markets and communities. Beside that I was a regular administrative staff handling confidential logistics for the field office. I was responsible for planning the sensitization activities for the field office. It was also my duty to write reports of the activities which were collated on monthly and annual bases and submitted to the head office.
I am currently, the Programme Officer on a Global Environment Facility funded project and I carry out field-based project communications functions. I am responsible for the preparation of project reporting and briefing materials. I plan, prepare, organize and implement project activities, supporting the Director of Programmes to ensure that all administrative and logistics arrangements are in place. I facilitate the smooth and effective flow of communication with relevant stakeholders including the host community, by maintaining regular contact, providing required information including official letters, request for technical assistance, and the process of identifying participants, and training, for activities under the project.
I advise the Director of Programmes and volunteers of local considerations and realities for proper and effective project implementation, as well as on ways to strengthen partnerships with beneficiary community. I handle project coordination and administrative actions to ensure efficient operations of the project including human resources and procurement actions among other functions.
I am a graduate of Mass Communication with practical journalism experience with Plateau Radio Television Corporation, National Accord Newspaper and United Nations Volunteers Online as News Editor for Weekly World Climate Change News.
I have been trained in English language from elementary school through the university and I have been using English regularly for work and daily interpersonal interactions so I have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
I am proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe applications.
I have studied the policies, rules and regulations of USAID to acquaint myself with them so that I will fit in within the required guidelines when employed.
