The K99s are so clear, you can see your reflection in the sound. Unless you are used to studio quality headphones, these are perfect for the amateur music enthusiast with a thirst for great sound.
Features: These are semi-open headphones with an adjustable headband. The come with a ¼” adapter and an extra-long three metre cable and 40 mm speakers.
Sound Quality: The quality is crystal clear, and makes for great listening. You find yourself picking up on the most subtle nuances of the music you listen to. The headphones seem to do well with almost any kind of music. The bass response on house and dubstep is fantastic, and clear without much muddiness. There is also a good amount of mid-range for rock and blues, and the clarity of vocals and the treble ranges are also flawless. Somehow, however, they lose a bit of loudness and clarity when plugged directly into your laptop. You would have to rely on the equaliser of your media player to get a good sound. When plugged into your iPod or through an amplifier for your stereo system, the personality changes and they perform better. They work even better for light studio work.
One could wish for a more in-your-face sound from them. The sound always sounds slightly distant, and sometimes, the treble seems a bit overwhelming after a while. Though this is a likeable feature, if you listen to a lot of classic rock and they make up for the relatively poorer sound quality in the days of yore. But the relative performance is better for rock and metal as compared to techno.
The best part about them is the drum sound. Drums are especially punchy and clear in these headphones. Listen to Gravity by John Mayer, and every snare hit feels huge.
Usage: The first thing that one notices is the large amount of sound bleeding from the headphones. Everyone in the office can hear what you are listening to, if you are on full volume. Though they have a moderate amount of noise cancellation, the bleeding sound is an annoying side-effect.
They sit comfortably on your ears and feel light and unobtrusive. After a while, you don’t even notice that you are wearing headphones. All in all they are a very comfortable pair of headphones and can be listened to for hours on end.
